From prehistoric, historic to contemporary period, Sindh always maintained its regional cultural identity in South Asia and attracted national and international scholars to unearth the early human settlements and artefacts buried beneath the cultural deposits of Amri, Kot Diji and Mohan jo Daro and the contemporary socio- political aspects.
Over the centuries, the diverse historical processes of socio-cultural and political changes have infused and introduced to the multiple forms of human condition, contexts and trajectories in Sindh. Historically, the socio-cultural developments in different time and place in Sindh which include the early exchange and spread of cultures, religions, worldviews, literature, languages, trade and encounters with foreign rulers mark the different ways of transculturation and interfacing of local- global cultural contacts.
The first International Conference on Sindh Studies organised by the Institute of Sindhology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Pakistan primarily aims to bring forth and generate critically informed interdisciplinary academic exchange on Sindh’s multiple layers, trajectories and tapestries of cultural identities and socio-political transitions. We invite submission of paper abstracts for a two-day international conference on Sindh Studies.
